Handkerchief | Tate Shibori

This is the tate shibori handkerchief hand dyed by Kaeru Jirushi Indigo Dye Factory with the method of traditional natural fermented indigo dye & shibori technique.

As selecting the material for this handkerchief they selected chita cotton, produced in Chita peninsula in Aichi.

Cita cotton has a very long history and has gained a high reputation as " white cotton " since Keicho period ( 1596-1615 ).

This chita cotton was weaved with a very old traditional loom which many places are not using nowadays. The loom can weave fabric in the right density for the handkerchief to provide its softness and absorbent nature.

How to Care for Indigo Product

Natural indigo products can be washed on a cool wash. I recommend that you gently hand wash items with detergent and lukewarm water the first 2-3 times after purchasing. Please use detergent that does not include any whitening or bleaching agents.

Line dry inside out in the shade or indoor is recommended.

Over time it may lose some colours by going through wash but this also remove excess dye from the fabric and leave with more vivid indigo colour on the fabric than before. This is the difference between 100% natural dyeing and chemical dyeing. The fabric with chemical dyeing just loses colour to white gradually.

Try to avoid leaving the products exposed to sunlight in storage. It may fade along creases.

If you keep the products in storage for a long time without washing, it may get a yellow/brown tint. This is a natural result of the lye in the indigo vat. If you soak the product in cold water for up to 24 hours the yellow colour will depart from the item.
